Gather a few things

A sturdy large board book and an age-rated large soft ball.

Let’s play

1. On the floor, tilt the book slightly with your hand to make a low ramp.
2. Place the ball at the top and let it roll.
3. Try a slightly different angle while keeping the ramp low.
4. Wonder aloud about what changed, then try again.

Talk about start, stop, faster, and slower without needing a right answer.

Keep a little memory

Remember their prediction: Where did they think the ball would go?

Make it work for your child

Hold the ramp while your child releases the ball. Watching and pointing are ways to join in.
